Bruce H. Bode (March 21, 1922 in Ridgewood, New Jersey – February 2, 1945 in Haute-Normandie, France)[1] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1939-1940 and 1940-1941 seasons. A second year student during the season, he was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.[2]
Bode attended Columbia Business School after the University of Virginia and was called to service in December 1942. He was a liaison pilot, and entered active service in September 1943 after training. He died on February 2, 1945 of injuries sustained in a plane crash, in which his plane lost power during takeoff. He deliberately changed course to avoid crashing near a house that had children playing in the yard, knowing that such an action would likely cost him his life.[1]
