The 1962 American Music Festival at the National Gallery of Art was one of two collaborations between the Virginia Glee Club and the National Gallery Orchestra in 1962 at the end of the Glee Club 1961-1962 season, the other being the City of Charlottesville 200th Anniversary (1962). The concert in which the Glee Club participated, held May 6, 1962 in the East Garden Court of the National Gallery of Art, at the beginning of the festival, was a program of music about the Revolutionary War and the founding of the country; the Glee Club performed The Testament of Freedom. Other performances in the series included Persichetti's "Song Cycle 'Harmonium' on Poems by Wallace Stevens," with the composer at the piano.
