Vernon Ross Mattox (October 19, 1914 in Union Hall, Virginia – December 11, 2008)[1] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1940-1941 and 1941-1942 seasons. A graduate student in chemistry during the season, he was also a member of Alpha Chi Sigma. Prior to arriving at the University of Virginia, he had received a B.A. from Lynchburg College and an MS from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.[2]

After completing his Ph.D, he joined the staff of the Mayo Clinic, becoming head of the Section of Biochemistry in 1964. He also taught at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, where he was head of the Biochemistry Department.[1]
