The premiere concert of the Virginia Women's Chorus was directed by James Dearing. Held in celebration of Founder's Day on April 15, 1974 in Old Cabell Hall, the concert included performances of works by Igor Stravinsky, Franz Schubert, Zoltan Kodaly, and Leos Janacek. The concert was jointly presented by the McIntire Department of Music and Student Council.
