William Henry Smith (1908 in Springfield, Massachusetts – 1944)[1][2] was an American composer and arranger best known for his 1939 arrangement of the traditional spiritual "Ride the Chariot," published in 1939.

Smith studied at Boston Conservatory, Northwestern University, the Chicago Music College and the University of Chicago. He moved to Chicago in 1926, where he directed the Olivet Baptist Church choir. In 1939 he left Chicago for Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where he served as dean of music and directed the Wiley College Choir.[2][3][4] He may also have been director of William Henry Smith's Jubilee Singers, a group that recorded in the 1930s.
